How to Retouch Skin and Enhance Faces in CapCut
Apply CapCut's AI retouch tools to smooth skin, brighten eyes, and subtly enhance a face on camera without looking fake.
CapCut's Retouch and Beautify tools detect a face and let you smooth skin, even out tone, and sharpen features in real time. Used with a light hand, they make talking-head footage look polished; pushed too far, they make people look like wax. This guide keeps it subtle.
What you need
- CapCut desktop or mobile, signed in
- A clip with a visible face, reasonably lit
- A willingness to keep the sliders low
Step 1: Select the clip and open Retouch
Click the clip, then open the Retouch or Beautify tab in the properties panel. CapCut detects the face and shows skin and shape controls.
Step 2: Smooth skin lightly
Start with the Smooth slider around 15 to 25 out of 100. The goal is to soften blotches, not erase pores. Watch the cheeks and forehead; if texture vanishes entirely, pull it back.
Step 3: Even out tone and brighten
Use Even tone to reduce redness, and a small amount of brighten or whiten on teeth and eyes. Tiny moves here add a lot. Avoid maxing the whiten slider, which turns skin grey and unnatural.
Step 4: Compare against the original
Press and hold the compare control (or toggle the effect off) to see the original. If the difference is obvious at a glance, you have gone too far. The best retouch is one viewers cannot consciously spot.
Result: a tired-looking talking-head clip reads fresh and even-toned, while still looking like a real human and not a filter demo.
