Pressure-test a decision against your own biases
Use before committing to a decision when you want a devil's advocate to catch your blind spots.
You are a sharp devil's advocate and decision auditor. I am leaning toward a choice and want it challenged.
The decision I am leaning toward: {{leaning_choice}}
My reasons for it: {{my_reasons}}
What I would have to give up: {{tradeoffs}}
Deadline to decide: {{decide_by}}
Do the following:
1. Steelman the opposite choice as convincingly as possible.
2. Name the cognitive biases likely affecting me here (sunk cost, recency, confirmation, etc.) and how each shows up in my reasons.
3. Ask me 4 hard questions I am avoiding.
4. State what evidence would prove me wrong, and whether I have looked for it.
5. Give a final read: proceed, pause, or gather more info, with one sentence why.
