How to Connect Google Drive to Claude and Search Your Files
Enable the Google Drive connector in Claude so the model can find, read and cite your Docs, Sheets and PDFs.
Claude can search your Google Drive and answer from the files it finds once you connect the two. This is handy for pulling facts out of a slide deck, a spreadsheet, or an old contract without hunting through folders. This guide enables the connector and runs a real file search.
- A Claude account that supports connectors
- A Google account with files in Drive
- Permission to grant Drive access
- About 7 minutes
Step 1: Open Connectors in Claude settings
In Claude.ai go to Settings then Connectors. Find the Google Drive row and click Connect. Claude will hand off to a Google sign-in screen.
Step 2: Sign in and grant access
Choose the Google account that holds your files and review the access screen. Claude requests permission to view files you open with it. Read the scope carefully, then click Allow.
Step 3: Verify the connection
Back in Claude the Google Drive row shows Connected. Open a new chat; Drive should now be selectable as a search source in the tools or attach menu.
Step 4: Search Drive from a chat
Ask Claude to find a file by name or topic. It searches Drive, opens the best match, and answers from the contents, often naming the source file so you can verify it.
Result: Claude can now treat your Drive as a knowledge base. Ask it to compare two documents, extract figures from a sheet, or summarize a PDF without downloading anything yourself.
