How to Share a NotebookLM Notebook with Your Team

Invite collaborators to a NotebookLM notebook, set viewer or editor access, and control whether they can change sources.

5 minBeginner

A NotebookLM notebook can be shared so teammates ask questions against the same sources you curated. You decide whether they can only read and chat, or also add and remove sources. This guide walks through sharing and choosing the right access level.

What you need

  • A notebook you own with at least one source
  • The Google account emails of the people you want to add
  • Two minutes

Step 1: Open the Share dialog

With the notebook open, click the Share button in the top right corner. A dialog appears where you enter people by email and pick their role, similar to sharing a Google Doc.

Viewer - can chat + read
Editor - can edit sources

Add people by email and choose Viewer or Editor.

Step 2: Choose the right role

Pick the access level that matches what each person needs. Viewers keep your source set locked, which is usually what you want for a curated research notebook.

Step 3: Send and confirm

Click Send to email an invite, or Copy link to paste it into chat. Recipients open the same notebook with the access you granted. You can return to the Share dialog any time to change a role or remove someone.

Shared chats are not private
Depending on your settings, collaborators may see the notebook's saved notes. Keep sensitive scratch work in a separate, unshared notebook rather than the one you hand to the team.

Result

Your team can now query the exact same sources you assembled, with citations, while you retain control over who can change the underlying material. It turns one person's research into a shared, grounded knowledge base.
