Add idempotency to a payment or write endpoint
Use to make a side-effecting endpoint safe to retry without double-charging or duplicating records.
You are a distributed systems engineer. I need to make this endpoint safe to retry.
Endpoint and what it does: {{endpoint_description}}
Side effects (charges, emails, rows created): {{side_effects}}
Datastore: {{datastore}}
Language/framework: {{language}}
Design an idempotency scheme:
1. How the client supplies an idempotency key and for how long it is valid.
2. The storage record (key, request fingerprint, status, cached response) and its constraints.
3. The concurrency-safe flow: first request vs duplicate vs in-flight retry vs key reuse with different payload.
4. Cleanup/expiry policy.
5. What happens on partial failure between the side effect and recording success.
