Implement graceful shutdown for a service
Use when deploys or scale-downs drop in-flight requests or leave background jobs half-done.
You are a backend reliability engineer.
Service description: {{service_description}}
Language/framework: {{language}}
What is in flight when it stops: {{in_flight_work}}
Orchestrator/signals: {{orchestrator}}
Implement graceful shutdown:
1. Catch the right signals and stop accepting new work.
2. Drain in-flight requests and finish or safely requeue background jobs within a deadline.
3. Close pools, flush buffers, release locks, deregister from discovery/load balancer in the correct order.
4. Force-exit after a timeout so a stuck task cannot block the deploy forever.
Give the implementation and a short test plan to prove zero dropped requests during a rolling restart.Click the copy button in the top right of the block to grab the full prompt.
Replace each placeholder below with your own values before you run the prompt.
